Overview
WALKING MEMORY is a European project that helps communities across Europe preserve and share their cultural stories using innovative digital tools. By combining interactive technologies like augmented reality (AR) memory walks and digital storytelling kits, the project makes it easier for people – including those from migrant and displaced backgrounds – to contribute their memories and heritage. WALKING MEMORY brings together local communities, researchers, cultural organizations, and policymakers to co-create and test these tools in real-life settings.
The goal is to make Europe’s cultural memory more inclusive, accessible, and sustainable, ensuring that everyone’s stories can be collected, shared, and reused for future generations. Through this collaborative and technology-driven approach, WALKING MEMORY strengthens social connections, supports new ideas in cultural preservation, and helps align heritage work with Europe’s digital and climate goals.

Ensure cross-border interoperability, inclusivity, and alignment with European data infrastructures.
Showcase the feasibility, replicability, and upscaling potential of WALKING MEMORY’s community-curated digital heritage tools across Europe.
Empower diverse European communities through cultural heritage literacy, digital skills training, and ECCCH-oriented citizen engagement.
Contribute to the iterative improvement and long-term sustainability of the ECCCH platform through structured feedback, technical insights, and coordination.
Facilitate broader ECCCH user engagement through Financial Support to Third Parties (FSTP).
