Pioneering AI-Enhanced SEcure 6G Services framework

Duration: 01/06/2026 – 31/05/2029
Total Funding: € 8,628,317.78

Overview

The new sixth-generation (6G) telecommunications standard will not only transmit data but will also function as a radar capable of monitoring human activity. The European scientific project PAISES-6G, led by the Universidad Carlos III de Madrid (UC3M) and with the participation of 17 other organisations, is working on technological solutions to ensure that all communications on a 6G network, including this integrated detection capability, are secure and ethical. To achieve this, it will integrate a native security layer combining artificial intelligence for cybersecurity, quantum-safe cryptography, and built-in privacy protections.

Objectives

1

Build trustworthy AI for 6G: Use AI and machine learning to make 6G networks more secure and trustworthy across every layer.

2

Create a framework for trusted AI/ML: A scalable, modular architecture that deploys AI models securely and “zero-touch”, with digital twins generating synthetic data for safe testing.

3

Deliver holistic 6G security: Protect the network end-to-end: physical-layer security, quantum-ready encryption and QKD, automatic vulnerability detection, intrusion detection, and AI-driven cyber threat intelligence.

4

Protect privacy in 6G services: Privacy-preserving Joint Communication & Sensing, secure telemetry and data sharing, and privacy-enhancing technologies that keep user data safe.

5

Test and prove the solutions: Integrate, validate and demonstrate everything on real testbeds across five European countries, ending in a full final demonstration.

6

Stay legal, ethical and viable: Ensure compliance with the AI Act, GDPR and Cyber Security Act, uphold ethical standards, and assess economic, social and environmental impact.

7

Drive standards and share results: Promote global consensus through strong communication, dissemination, exploitation and contributions to 6G standardisation.

eBOS Role in the Project

eBOS has two main roles in PAISES-6G: a technical contributor and the dissemination and communication manager. On the technical side, eBOS leads the development of IS7 — the eXplainable Game-theory Intrusion Detection Engine, an Intrusion Detection System that combines game theory (modelling attacker–defender interactions to drive adaptive, proactive defence) with Explainable AI (making detection reasoning interpretable to security analysts).

IS7 addresses Objective OO#3, advances from TRL 2 to TRL 4, and is validated in WP5 through PoC 2 (Use Case 2.2); within WP3, eBOS participates in T3.2 (Automatic vulnerability detection) and T3.3 (AI-driven Intrusion Detection / anomaly detection). On the communication side, eBOS leads Task T7.1 (Dissemination and Communication) in WP7 and owns deliverables D7.1 (project website and online presence) and D7.2 (Initial CDE Strategy Plan), steering how the project and its results are promoted to its audiences and the wider SNS JU ecosystem.
