A European FEderated Network of Information eXchange in Logistics
Overview
Transport across land, sea, and air is increasingly becoming organised through digital systems. While numerous services and solutions exist, most are not designed for interoperability. Europe’s transport and logistics ecosystem is highly fragmented, making information-sharing and coordination difficult. This lack of interoperable information exchange is the main obstacle to achieving improved efficiency and sustainability in transport and logistics operations within the European transport network. Developing high-performing, sustainable and efficiently interconnected trans-European networks is essential to ensuring Europe’s long-term prosperity.
FENIX supported the ‘digitalisation’ of the European transport industry by developing, validating and deploying digital information systems along the EU Transport Core Network, particularly along multi-modal transport corridors. FENIX established the premier European federative network of platforms for logistics planning and execution as a Service, serving the European logistics community of shippers, logistics service providers, mobility infrastructure providers, cities, and authorities. To achieve this, FENIX leveraged interoperable, interchangeable planning and optimisation tools and services, such as Internet of Things, Big Data, Data Integration, Data Analytics, Data Products, Intelligent Transportation Systems and new satellite navigation technologies.
Objectives
Deliver a federated network of transport and logistics actors across Europe, enabling sharing of information and services needed to optimise TEN-T corridors from economic, environmental and social perspectives.
Provide secretariat support for the European Commission Digital Transport Logistics Forum (DTLF).
Undertake liaison activities with other European Commission’s initiatives and to deliver an EU Corridor community building programme.
Demonstrate the operational feasibility and benefits of the FENIX federative network of platforms in nine TEN-T European Corridors and four Motorways of the Sea.
eBOS Role in the Project
In FENIX, eBOS leveraged its extensive experience in ICT and was primarily involved in the integration of the FENIX technological blocks. Specifically, eBOS contributed to the design and development of the federated architecture for data-sharing platforms in the Transport & Logistics sector. It also participated in the integration of additional services and applications within the FENIX federative network of platforms, and carried out extensive testing and verification activities to ensure the readiness of the technology building blocks before their deployment at the Pilot Sites.
