eBOS Participated in the PAISES-6G Project Kick-off Meeting on 10-11 June 2026

The PAISES-6G project (Pioneering AI-enhanced SEcure 6G Services framework) has officially begun, holding its kick-off meeting on 10-11 June 2026 in Madrid, Spain, hosted by project coordinator Universidad Carlos III de Madrid (UC3M). The meeting brought together representatives from all 18 consortium partners across nine countries, marking the start of a 36-month journey to make next-generation 6G networks secure, trustworthy and intelligent by design.

Project highlights

At its heart, PAISES-6G sets out to develop 6G infrastructures that are robust, secure and intelligent, integrating advanced AI and machine learning to strengthen security and trust across every layer of the network — from the physical and radio layers through to the core and service layers.

A defining feature of the project is its use of digital twins to generate synthetic data, allowing network functions to be tested safely and rigorously without exposing sensitive information. Alongside this, PAISES-6G is developing secure, flexible frameworks for the distribution and execution of network functions (xNFs), and is pioneering quantum-ready encryption — combining Post-Quantum Cryptography (PQC) and Quantum Key Distribution (QKD) — to fortify networks against future quantum-level threats.

The project also advances network management through the zero-touch, secure deployment of AI algorithms across federated domains, reducing human error and enabling networks to manage growing complexity while defending against increasingly sophisticated cyber threats. Complementing this, PAISES-6G explores AI-driven cyber threat intelligence using autonomous Large Language Model (LLM) agents that anticipate, rather than merely react to, network anomalies — all underpinned by an ethics-by-design approach aligned with the EU AI Act and GDPR. In total, the consortium will deliver more than 14 innovative solutions, validated through three Proof-of-Concept demonstrations: AI-supported Industrial IoT (on the Gotham testbed), privacy-preserving networking (on the 5TONIC testbed), and global security spanning QKD to Cyber Threat Intelligence (on a federated PAISES-6G testbed).

PAISES-6G is a 36-month Horizon Europe Research and Innovation Action funded by the Smart Networks and Services Joint Undertaking (SNS JU), running from 1 June 2026 to 31 May 2029 under Grant Agreement No. 101292896 (call HORIZON-JU-SNS-2025-01, topic STREAM-B-04-01). Coordinated by Universidad Carlos III de Madrid, the consortium unites 18 partners from nine countries — spanning major operators, research institutes, technology SMEs and universities across seven EU Member States together with the United Kingdom and Ukraine — and is supported by an EU contribution of approximately €8 million.

The project follows a structured, three-year timeline punctuated by ten milestones. Following the kick-off, the first major step is the launch of the project’s website and online presence at Month 3, alongside the project handbook and consortium foundations. An interim architecture definition follows at Month 9, with a first release of innovative technical solutions at Month 18, an initial evaluation and the finalised architecture by Month 21, and final solution releases by Month 33. The project culminates at Month 36 with the integrated final demonstration of PAISES-6G’s solutions across its three Proof-of-Concept scenarios, accompanied by the consortium’s ethical, legal and economic recommendations for secure 6G.

eBOS has two main roles in PAISES-6G: a technical contributor and the dissemination and communication manager. On the technical side, eBOS leads the development of IS7 — the eXplainable Game-theory Intrusion Detection Engine, an Intrusion Detection System that combines game theory (modelling attacker–defender interactions to drive adaptive, proactive defence) with Explainable AI (making detection reasoning interpretable to security analysts). IS7 addresses Objective OO#3, advances from TRL 2 to TRL 4, and is validated in WP5 through PoC 2 (Use Case 2.2); within WP3, eBOS participates in T3.2 (Automatic vulnerability detection) and T3.3 (AI-driven Intrusion Detection / anomaly detection). On the communication side, eBOS leads Task T7.1 (Dissemination and Communication) in WP7 and owns deliverables D7.1 (project website and online presence) and D7.2 (Initial CDE Strategy Plan), steering how the project and its results are promoted to its audiences and the wider SNS JU ecosystem.
