eBOS participated in the final GUARDEN plenary meeting in Brussels

From October 1st to 3rd, 2025, the Horizon Europe project GUARDEN (“safeGUARDing biodivErsity aNd critical ecosystem services across sectors and scales”) held its Final Plenary Meeting at the Herman Teirlinck building in Brussels, Belgium. The three-day event gathered consortium partners and advisory board members to present the project’s achievements and results. eBOS was represented by Dr Gianna Ioannou, R&D Senior Project Manager, who leads the company’s involvement in the project.

The agenda featured presentations, interactive sessions, and case studies presentations. Highlights included the presentation of the GUARDEN final architecture and its components, as well as results from case studies conducted in Spain, Madagascar, Greece, Cyprus, and France. Additionally, dedicated sessions were held on scientific and technical achievements, policy pathways, and sustainability strategies.

GUARDEN’s mission is to safeguard biodiversity and its contributions to people by bringing them to the forefront of policy and decision-making. The project achieves this by developing user-oriented Decision-Support Applications (DSAs) and leveraging Multi-Stakeholder Partnerships (MSPs).

GUARDEN has combined methods such as deep learning, earth observation, and hybrid modelling to generate standardised, geo-localised biodiversity data and predictive models. These models assess biodiversity and ecosystem status indicators under pressures such as human activities and climate change, thereby equipping policymakers, experts, and communities with science-based tools for decision-making.

eBOS plays a pivotal role in the GUARDEN project by leading the integration and configuration of the GUARDEN system and designing the applications’ user interface. Additionally, as the leader of Work Package 5, eBOS oversees the testing and validation of the developed tools across four unique case studies. eBOS also serves as the project’s Quality Assurance and Risk Manager, ensuring that all activities adhere to the highest standards and effectively manage risks.
