eBOS participated in the Consortium meeting of the THEROS project
On December 5th and 6th, the THEROS project, “An integrated toolbox for improved verification and prevention of adulterations and non-compliances in organic and geographical indications food supply chain,” held its face-to-face Consortium meeting in Prague. THEROS is a 36-month EU-funded Innovation Action project funded under the Horizon Europe programme, officially starting on January 1st, 2023.
The THEROS project develops an advanced toolbox to modernise and verify organic and geographical food indications, preventing adulteration and ensuring compliance. It enhances traceability, security, and transparency in the supply chain using technologies like Earth Observation, IoT, photonics, DNA metabarcoding, blockchain, AI/ML, and digital product passports. It ensures interoperability with existing systems, facilitates standardised data sharing and supports stakeholder adoption for better decision-making.
Our colleagues Christos Skoufis, Deputy Head of R&D Projects, and Dr Kyriaki Psara, R&D Project Manager, participated in the meeting, chaired by the Institute of Communications & Computer Systems (ICCS), as the project Coordinator. The 17 consortium partners attended the meeting, presenting the project’s progress and planned future activities. During the meeting, a set of demonstrations also took place:
- MEMS Testing: Evaluating the tool’s ability to detect food adulteration and verify organic compliance with a focus on accuracy, portability, and real-time usability in Serbia and Greece.
- Green Accountability Tool Testing: Ensuring transparency, reliability, and effectiveness in tracking sustainability performance. Pilot Demonstration Use Cases: Showcasing how THEROS components are deployed in real-world scenarios, followed by partner feedback for improvement.
eBOS will design and integrate the THEROS toolbox’s Human-Machine Interface (HMI) to help policymakers and supply chain actors monitor activities and make informed decisions. It will apply AI/ML to verify food origin and quality using DNA footprints. As Quality Assurance and Risk Manager, eBOS will ensure quality procedures and proactive risk mitigation. Additionally, eBOS will lead exploitation activities, create market-entry plans and sustainability strategies, and tailor business models to commercialise and market the project’s Key Exploitable Results.
