eBOS participated in the annual plenary meeting of the GUARDEN project in Barcelona

From September 25th to 27th, the GUARDEN project, titled “GUARDEN: safeGUARDing biodiversity and critical ecosystem services,” held its annual plenary meeting in Barcelona, Spain. The meeting, hosted by CSIC, gathered representatives from the project’s 16-partner consortium to review progress, plan future work, and map out actions for the upcoming months.

eBOS was represented by Dr. Gianna Ioannou, R&D Project Manager, who leads the company’s involvement in the project. eBOS, as the leader of Work Package 5, provided updates on the technological performance validation of the GUARDEN system through four real-life case studies. Additionally, eBOS, as the leader of Task 4.4, offered insights into the system’s integration, digitalisation, and the development of Decision Support Applications (DSAs).

GUARDEN’s main mission is to safeguard biodiversity and its contributions to people by bringing them to the forefront of policy and decision-making. This will be achieved by developing user-oriented Decision-Support Applications (DSAs) and leveraging Multi-Stakeholder Partnerships (MSPs). To achieve this, GARDEN will utilise various methods and tools, including deep learning, earth observation, and hybrid modelling. The aim is to enhance the volume of standardised and geo-localized biodiversity data and develop new predictive models for biodiversity and ecosystem status indicators, considering various pressures such as human impact and climate change.

eBOS plays a pivotal role in the GUARDEN project by leading the integration and configuration of the GUARDEN system and designing the graphical Human Machine Interface (HMI). As the leader of Work Package 5, eBOS oversees the testing and validation of the developed tools across four unique case studies. Additionally, eBOS serves as the project’s Quality Assurance and Risk Manager, ensuring that all activities meet the highest standards and effectively manage risks.
