eBOS participated in the 2nd plenary meeting of the W2W project

On December 10-11, 2024, eBOS participated in the 2nd plenary meeting of the W2W project, held in Thessaloniki, Greece. The meeting was chaired by ICCS and gathered 25 partners to review the project’s progress and make key decisions to optimize its following phase. Mr. Vasilis Poulikakos, R&D Project Manager at eBOS, presented the latest advancements in the creation of the Integrated Circular Wood Upcycling Platform, providing important insights into ensuring the project’s successful execution.

The W2W project aims to create a sustainable framework for reusing wood waste from construction, demolition, and furniture. It focuses on advanced sorting technologies, innovative upcycling processes, digital tools to optimize circular material flows, and supportive policies and training. By demonstrating efficient value chains in three use cases, W2W will produce new materials like pollutant-free wood, biocomposites, biopolymers, and chemical detergents. This holistic approach reduces reliance on virgin materials, minimises waste, and supports a circular economy by transforming wood waste into valuable, reusable products.

As a key partner in the W2W project, eBOS is responsible for the development of the Integrated Circular Wood Upcycling Platform. This innovative platform will feature a user-friendly interface with tools for visualisation, control, AI-driven optimization, and decision-making. It supports the modelling, simulation and assessment of wood use by enabling:

  1. Data analysis across the wood lifecycle to identify patterns, optimize cascading strategies and reduce environmental impacts.
  2. Predictive modelling of environmental impacts from various wood waste scenarios.
  3. Integration with GIS to analyse wood waste distribution, transportation and processing logistics.
  4. Real-time monitoring and adaptive management of wood waste strategies.

Beyond technical tasks, eBOS leads the “GDPR, Gender Balance, Legal and Ethical Issues Management” for the project. This involves creating ethical guidelines aligned with the European Code of Conduct for Research Integrity and GDPR, ensuring responsible research practices, participant inclusion and the preparation of robust consent forms. Social Sciences and Humanities are also integrated to promote Responsible Research and Innovation throughout the project.
