eBOS at the CAELESTIS General Assembly Meeting in Munich, Germany

eBOS is pleased to share its involvement in the physical General Assembly meeting, which took place from September 18th to September 19th in Munich, Germany. During the physical meeting, Mr. Christos Skoufis, Deputy Head of the R&D Projects and Chief Information Security Officer (CISO) at eBOS, delivered a compelling presentation for the CAELESTIS project. As a cybersecurity expert, Mr. Skoufis elaborated on cybersecurity considerations and recommendations to boost cybersecurity awareness and resilience, with a special focus on the CAELESTIS ecosystem.
The presentation highlighted an in-depth analysis of the Privacy, Data Protection, Ethics, Cybersecurity and Societal (PRESS) framework, which has been specifically tailored for industrial design and manufacturing simulation applications. Based on this framework, Mr. Skoufis announced to the project consortium the implementation of the upcoming Cybersecurity Online Workshop, preliminary scheduled for October 2024. This workshop is led by eBOS, with the support of other key project partners, and it is designed to provide in-depth insights into the latest cybersecurity practices and challenges within the aerospace industry, particularly focusing on the CAELESTIS advancements.
The CAELESTIS project is focused on developing an end-to-end Interoperable Simulation Ecosystem (ISE) that revolutionises the aircraft design and manufacturing process. By enabling seamless data flow across the entire aircraft value chain, CAELESTIS connects product design with distributed engineering teams, utilising advanced Computer-Aided Design and Computer-Aided Engineering (CAD-CAE) tools to accelerate the optimisation of innovative aircraft and engine configurations from the very start of the design process.
The ecosystem integrates a wide range of state-of-the-art simulation tools powered by High-Performance Computing (HPC) infrastructures to execute complex simulations at realistic time scales. It, therefore, reflects the development of high-fidelity digital twins and the use of machine learning to detect manufacturing flaws and optimise product designs. By bringing HPC simulations to the manufacturing shop floor, CAELESTIS supports real-time performance predictions and corrective actions, ultimately contributing to more efficient production processes and higher quality assurance in aircraft manufacturing.
The primary objective of eBOS in CAELESTIS is to ensure that the project’s ecosystem, which operates within a hyperconnected simulation environment and federates various actors from the European aircraft supply chain, is equipped with robust cybersecurity and defence mechanisms. These measures are essential to safeguard the security of data, intellectual property (IP), and end-users within this advanced digital ecosystem.
In-depth, the emphasis is on the analysis of cybersecurity threats and risk factors within these environments, adhering to the ENISA standards relevant to the air transport sector and the European Cyber Security Organisation (ECSO) recommendations. Therefore, eBOS provides a detailed analysis of current cybersecurity threats and mitigation strategies while leveraging emerging technologies to enhance cybersecurity resilience. This analysis places a particular emphasis on the complexities of high-performance computing (HPC) and cyber-physical systems, two areas of growing importance in the aerospace industry.
