Certification for Cybersecurity in EU ICT using Decentralised Digital Twinning

Duration: 01/11/2023 – 31/10/2026
Total Funding: € 4,996,405.63

Overview

Cybersecurity threats remain a significant challenge, potentially hindering the widespread adoption of emerging technologies in Information and Communication Technology (ICT), such as Industrial AI and Quantum Computing. Additionally, the integration of different modules and technologies often creates security discrepancies and discontinuities that must be monitored in a seamless and agile manner, ultimately leading to the certification of the underlying systems. However, the existence of various standards across different industries often leads to the multi-certification of common-root processes and tools. This, in turn, forces industries and manufacturers to allocate resources inefficiently, due to the absence of a unified cybersecurity certification model in the ICT sector.

COBALT proposes the introduction of a Common Certification Model (CCM) for European industries, leveraging existing standards and composing a unified cybersecurity namespace for ICT processes. The project will uphold the paradigm of Digital Twinning (DT) and extend it in a vertical agnostic approach across different industries, including Quantum computing and I4.0.

Objectives

1

Build an open and unified information model for EU certification of ICT products and Quantum Computing processes and services focusing on trusted sharing of information among various stakeholders.

2

Develop Continuous Certification functionality leveraging Digital Twinning to model, analyse and certify different processes from different verticals, and verify whether by certifying the DT its physical counterpart is effectively certified.

3

Address Quantum High Performance Computing (HPC) and AI certification, by assessing and analysing existing procedures and processes in the FOKUS Quantum Computer lab and the joint BOSCH/BGSG I4.0 use case.

4

Demonstrate and showcase the developed framework in a set of cutting-edge pilot use cases focusing on I4.0, Quantum, and ICT infrastructure.

5

Maximise the impact of the COBALT results via extensive communication, scientific dissemination, and exploitation activities.

eBOS Role in the Project

In COBALT, eBOS will lead the Market Analysis and Strategy Definition, the Socio-Economical Sustainability Analysis, the development of the COBALT Ecosystem Business Models and the Uptake Roadmap, coordinating the overall business development activities of the project. eBOS will also be responsible for the Dissemination, Communication and Awareness Campaigns, undertaking all activities relevant to impact maximisation and outreach. It will oversee the Standardisation and Empowering European Cybersecurity Certification, investigating the current relevant legislation and standardisation landscape, defining a robust standardisation strategy for COBALT results and harmonising the use of digital sovereign identity. In addition, eBOS will have significant involvement in assessing and managing the risk associated with the target of evaluation throughout its lifecycle, and will develop the COBALT Continuous Certification Toolkit.

Finally, eBOS will participate in the integration of the COBALT ecosystem and the demonstrations on the I4.0 and Quantum domains, that will showcase the advantages of the COBALT unified certification framework.
