CiROCCO Project – Fourth General Assembly in Belgrade and Sixth Stakeholders Workshop in Deliblato Sands

On 20–21 October 2025, the CiROCCO project — “Enhancing the In-situ Environmental Observations across Under-sampled Deserts” — held its 4th General Assembly in Belgrade and 6th Stakeholders Workshop in Deliblato Sands, Serbia.
Hosted by VSUME (Vojvodinašume) and INOSENS, representing Pilot 3 – Serbia, the events brought together project partners and local stakeholders to review progress and plan the next phase of large-scale environmental monitoring deployments.
Dr. Kleanthis Erotokritou, R&D Project Manager at eBOS Technologies, represented eBOS and presented updates on the Low-Cost Sensing Node (LCSN) Version 2 — an IoT-enabled device integrating multiple sensors for real-time environmental data collection. The meetings highlighted progress across all Work Packages and fostered collaboration between scientific and regional partners.
At the Deliblato Sands Special Nature Reserve, stakeholders exchanged insights on forest management, fire protection, and air-quality monitoring, followed by a field visit to Zagajička Brda, showcasing the biodiversity and environmental challenges addressed by CiROCCO’s Serbian pilot.
CiROCCO (Enhancing the In-situ Environmental Observations across Under-sampled Deserts) is a Horizon Europe-funded project aiming to improve environmental monitoring in desert regions. It deploys cost-effective, scalable sensor networks in under-sampled ecosystems across Egypt, Serbia, Spain, and Cyprus. These sensors collect in-situ environmental data, which are integrated with Copernicus Earth Observation data to enhance climate models and support European Green Deal objectives. CiROCCO enables services such as renewable energy planning, air quality alerts, and land use management. It leverages both local wireless and satellite IoT connectivity to reach remote areas. Coordinated by ICCS in Greece, the project involves a consortium of 12 partners and runs from March 2023 to February 2026.
eBOS’ role in the project is the translation of the functional and non-functional pilot requirements into technical specifications, for the development of the technological components of CiROCCO. eBOS leads the pilots Work Package, and specifically the scene set-up, benchmarking definition, operational management and DevOps task. eBOS is also responsible for developing and prototyping the low-cost, in-situ, electronic sensing nodes that will be used in the high-density sensor network, aiming to enhance the measurement resolution in hard-to-reach areas. Furthermore, eBOS acts as the project’s Quality Assurance manager and contributes to the elaboration of CiROCCO’s dissemination and sustainability plans and plans to maximise the project’s impact by presenting the project’s results to key membership associations.
