6G-OPTICONs Begins Its Journey Towards the Future of 6G Networks
The 6G-OPTICON project has officially begun its collaborative journey by successfully completing its online Kick-off Meeting on Tuesday, 7 July 2026. Following the project’s official start on 1 June 2026 and the decisions taken during the pre-kick-off meetings, the Kick-off Meeting brought together all consortium partners alongside the Project Officer. The meeting established a common understanding of the project’s vision, objectives, implementation strategy, and expected outcomes.
During the meeting, the partners’ representatives discussed the technical expectations and roadmap for their assigned work packages and tasks, project management processes, as well as the immediate next steps for the implementation phase. eBOS delivered a detailed presentation on the project’s dissemination, communication, standardisation, and exploitation strategy, highlighting the importance of ensuring that the project’s results reach their intended audiences effectively.
As highlighted during the presentation:
“It is not only important for the results to be excellent, but equally important that they reach and are disseminated to the target audiences with the same quality and care.”
The event provided an excellent opportunity to strengthen collaboration across the consortium and ensure a coordinated start to the project.
The 6G-OPTICON project is a three-year research and innovation initiative, co-funded by the European Union under the Smart Networks and Services Joint Undertaking (SNS JU). Bringing together 9 partners from 5 European countries, the project aims to develop an AI-native, end-to-end orchestration framework for heterogeneous 6G network environments, leveraging Artificial Intelligence (AI), programmable network infrastructures, and advanced orchestration capabilities to enable automated, resilient, secure, and sustainable network operations.
With the project now officially underway, the consortium has initiated the first technical and management activities, including the definition of the overall system architecture, requirements analysis, and the coordination of work package implementation. The coming months will focus on establishing the project’s technological foundations and strengthening collaboration among partners, while preparations are already underway for the consortium’s first face-to-face meeting, scheduled for October 2026.
eBOS plays a key role in 6G-OPTICON by leading the project’s dissemination, communication, and exploitation activities. It also leads the identification and monitoring of intellectual property rights (IPR), exploitable assets, and business opportunities arising from the project. (through leading WP6)
eBOS is responsible for managing the project’s integration cycles and processes, coordinating the integration of developments from the technical work packages into the 6G-OPTICON testbed, and supporting the validation of the overall platform. (through leading T5.1)
